Imagine a huge, 6 kilometers high, mountain of pure table salt. This mountain goes deep underground and is covered with sedimentary rocks. And at its very top in a small depression there is a lake.

For a modern tourist, Baskunchak is both exotic and therapeutic procedures in a saturated salt solution - brine. In the cliffs of the mountain is the sea triass with fossilized remains of animals that lived 200-250 million years ago – this makes the mountain a real geological museum in the open air.
