Description:
In Volgograd there is a famous square of fallen fighters. This square took the place previously located here, Alexander Square. A piece of square covers the square, which goes into the Alley of Heroes.
Here, in the central area of the square, there is a natural monument of historical significance - Topol on the Square of Fallen Fighters. The tree grows next to the Eternal Flame and the monument to the hero of the Soviet Union Ruben Ibarruri.
The tree attracts great attention, as according to official sources – survived the Battle of Stalingrad. Evidence of this is significant damage sustained during the fighting. The tree, according to experts, more than a hundred years.
Near the tree is a memorial plaque indicating that “this Topol carried his life through the great battle.” Currently, local historians and historians of Volgograd are discussing the true origin of the tree. According to the new version, on the site of the now growing poplar, until 1957, there was a path for pedestrians. And since 1957, new trees were planted, the square was renovated. Then they planted a poplar that can be seen in our time.
