Description:
A belt of Cretaceous deposits formed by tiny organisms, foraminifera, stretches across Europe, from its northwestern Channel to our Volgograd region. In the Volgograd region, the chalk mountains come to the surface and blind the traveler with their white slopes. We will learn about various fragments of this period of development of the earth, the plants that were able to adapt to life in harsh conditions, and how people used this gift of nature.
We will visit the Holy Trinity Belogorsky Monastery, getting acquainted with its history and sources, giant oaks, which are familiar with Peter the Great and with the place where Alexander Nevsky negotiated with the Tatar-Mongols of the Golden Horde.
One of the attractions of this expedition will be a walk along the canyon beam, where in June you can catch more snow and get acquainted with unexpected nature for our natural belt.
8:00 group gathering and departure from Volgograd;
10:00 – the first stop at the chalk cliff. Participants get acquainted with the conditions for the occurrence of chalk deposits and foraminifera collect fragments of shells of the Cretaceous geological epoch, get acquainted with specific plants and objects;
11:00 – moving to the Holy Trinity Kamennobrodsky Belogorsky male monastery;
12:00 – stop for a snack on the banks of the Ilovlya River;
13:00 – visit the Belogorsk cave;
14:30 - walking to the canyon - an analogue of the Markov beam, a landscape monument of azonal nature;
15:30 – visit the giant oaks, the holy spring, the cross, installed in the place where Alexander Nevsky negotiated with the basurmans;
17:00 - return to the bus, transfer to Volgograd;
19:00 - arrival in Volgograd.
