Individual excursion "Vologda Detinets Ivan the Terrible"

This unusual excursion program is dedicated to the authentic Vologda fortress – a historical and archaeological monument of Vologda, founded by Ivan IV the Terrible.

The fortress has not existed for a long time, but historical materials have been preserved: chronicles, archival documents, ancient plans and the remains of fortifications in the cultural layer of the city. It is thanks to these sources that you will get acquainted with the little-known monument and see its graphic reconstruction.

In the course of a cognitive walk we will find out:

• Why did Ivan the Terrible like Vologda to build the Kremlin twice as high as Moscow?
• How did Vologda turn into a fork in Europe?
• Is it true that the royal plans included the transfer of the capital here?
• which preceded this large-scale construction,

Together we will touch the era of the reign of Ivan the Terrible and see “living” evidence reminiscent of the Vologda Kremlin today.
