The Great Assumption Monastery
city of Kirillov, Vologda region
Description:
The history of the monastery begins from time immemorial, when the monk Kirill, together with comrade Ferapont, went to the northern forests to convert people to Christianity. They were looking for a suitable place to stop and build a wooden church. The choice fell on Mount Marois, which opened a stunning view. Kirill put a wooden cross there, thereby leaving his mark. It's a joke, but the monk's footprint still exists. On the mountain there is a footprint in which lies a streamlined stone. People believe that it is a holy sign and do not touch it.
After that, at the foot of the mountain, Cyril opened his monastery, which for four centuries was rebuilt and rebuilt several times. As a result, the Assumption Monastery unites nine temples. This is not counting cells, the monastery archive, theological school, the cellar house, hospital wards and many other equally important things.
In 1999, the Assumption Monastery opened its own museum. The Archimandric Corps was taken under it.
