Tsar Constantine Church of Saints Constantine and Helena

pr. Victory, 85, Vologda, Russia

Description:

Tsarekonstantinov Church is one of the oldest in Vologda. Since the 16th century, it is mentioned in the chronicles, where it is also said that the temple was built on the site of the appearance of the Russian Tsar John the Third who helped to defeat Kazan of the miraculous image of Dmitry Prilutsky. The stone temple, the one we know today, was built in 1690.

This church can be considered for a long time and with pleasure - there are so many different details in its architecture, which together create a truly Russian, charming, but strictly whimsical structure. Inside there is also something to see: this is a luxurious iconostasis of the 17th century, and holy relics, and a number of interesting ancient icons, and vaults removed in the Baroque style, and fine carvings.

Since 1930, for almost 70 years, the temple was closed to parishioners and was used for other purposes. It was only in 1997 that the church was returned to the faithful, and regular services are held here today.
