Archangel Gabriel Church

Russia, Vologda region, Kirillov district, Kirillov city, Kirillo-Belozersky monastery

Description:

The Church of the Archangel Gabriel is located next to the Assumption Cathedral in the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. The church was built with funds allocated by Grand Duke Vasily the Third. He wanted to thank the monastery for the birth of his son, the future Tsar Ivan the Terrible. Construction lasted three years: from 1531 to 1534.

Initially, the Church of the Archangel Gabriel was built in the Russian architectural style, but with the touch of the Italian school of architecture. This was expressed in everything, primarily in the internal space of the church and the processing of the facade of the temple. Unfortunately, the temple in its original form has not reached us, it has been rebuilt many times, so it is difficult to understand how it was after construction.

In the XX century, the Church of the Archangel Gabriel was professionally restored, having done a great job, both outside and in the interior of the temple.
