Church of John Chrysostom

Embankment 6 Army, 105/1, Vologda

Description:

The Church of John Chrysostom is an inactive two-storey church. This is one of the oldest stone buildings on the territory of Vologda. The building is located on the embankment of the Vologda River and perfectly complements the picturesque landscape.

The Church of John Chrysostom is also known as Myronositskaya. The fact is that this church is an example of the successful implementation of the idea of northern masters to combine two temples in one building. The lower, "warm" (or summer) church was used in the summer, while the "cold" church on the second floor was used in the winter. In fact, one of their temples was consecrated in the name of John Chrysostom, and the second in the name of righteous myrrh-bearing wives.

The Church of John Chrysostom is a slender four-pillar church topped with five domes. Nearby, an elegant bell tower was erected, characteristic of Russian architecture of the XVI-XVIII centuries.

The church was closed immediately after the revolution and fell into disrepair. Today, efforts to restore it have begun.
