ooh Pervomayskaya, 12 building 1, Vologda, Vologda region, Russia
Description:
The Church of the Intercession on Kozlen was so named after the name of the settlement in which it was located. First, in the XVII century, on the site of the modern stone Church of the Intercession was a wooden church in the name of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God, the first historical information about it refers to 1612. At that time, the church was burned by Lithuanians, as the chronicles say.
In 1704, a stone church dedicated to the Mother of God the Burning Kupina was laid, and in 1730, instead of a wooden cold Church of the Intercession, a stone Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God was built next to the Church of the Mother of God.
The wall painting of the church dates back to the beginning of the XVIII century and is of considerable interest. Among the icons inside the church, there is a very ancient, medium-sized, icon of the Savior of the Image not made with hands. It is located on the outer wall of the altar of the cold church.
In 1930, the Church of the Intercession on Kozlen was closed, and the building was occupied by a furniture factory. From 1950 to 1981, the building was a recruiting station, in 1985, restoration work was started in the church. Since 1991, the church has been declared active.
