The Church of Crete
Russia, Vologda, embankment of the VI Army, 85
Description:
The Church of Cretenia in Vologda is a closed Orthodox church located in the historical district of Zarechye. It belongs to architectural monuments of federal importance. The church was built in the thirties of the XVIII century, later it was expanded - a porch and a bell tower were completed. In the architecture of the temple, both Russian Baroque and Russian narrowness merged, which makes the building unique in its kind. On the wooden altar cross there is an inscription from which it follows that the first wooden Sretensky church existed already in 1656.
One of the icons that used to belong to the church, the image “Descent from the Cross”, written in the XVI century, is located in the Tretyakov Gallery.
