Christmas Chapel

ooh Sergey Orlova, Central City Park VRZ (Cathedral Hill)

Description:

The full name of this temple is: "Memorial Sign - a chapel to perpetuate the 2000th anniversary of Christianity and Russia's entry into the third millennium." The place for him was chosen in the historical center of the ancient Russian city, on the banks of the Vologda River.

The construction was carried out on donations from residents of Vologda, enterprises and organizations, as well as parishes of temples of the Vologda diocese. The names of all donors were preserved by a commemorative scroll sealed in a metal capsule, which was placed in a niche of a concrete sarcophagus in front of the chapel.

The author of the project is architect G. I. Vinogradov. The chapel was consecrated on July 7, 2002, on the Day of All Saints by His Grace Maximilian, Bishop of Vologda and Velikoustyuzhsky.

The decoration of the strict and modest interior of the chapel was a large (one and a half human height) mosaic icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary “Vladimirskaya”. And the chapel itself decorated both the recreation park and the city center. Light, aspiring to the top, it seems to repeat the contours of St. Sophia Cathedral.

The chapel is open to the public when prayers are performed in it. The schedule of prayers can be found in the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God “at the Trade”.
