Description:
The most interesting Orthodox church in Vologda is the Church of the Intercession' of the Virgin on Trade. It is considered an architectural monument of regional importance. The temple was built in the XVIII century, on the site of the house church of Joachim and Anna, which was built during the visit of Vologda by Ivan the Terrible. His first stay here was in 1545. In 1549, in honor of the birth of his daughter, a temple was laid, which is called “Joachim and Anna”.
In 1679 there was a fire in the church. After its restoration, the main throne was dedicated to the memory of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God. It existed in this form until the 1780s. Then permission was obtained for the construction of a stone temple, and the wooden church was moved without termination of service. After the construction of the new temple, it was dismantled for firewood.
The main part of the church is a columnless cube, on top of which there is a two-tiered head. On the east side, a five-sided aspid adjoins the temple, and on the west - refectory. The bell tower is located above the porch. Later, a porch was added, executed in pseudo-Russian style. The church has a large number of ancient icons, some of them are considered miraculous.
