Forge Tower of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery

Russia, Vologda region, Kirillov district, Kirillov city, Kirillo-Belozersky monastery

Description:

The forge tower, like the other three, belongs to the New Town - later buildings in the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery. It was built in 1670. It is also octagonal, like the Vologda Tower, so it looks more beautiful in a number of other, earlier towers of the monastery. It goes to Lake Sivers. The name of the tower is apparently associated with the blacksmith workshop, located there.

The monastery has always been a force that could repel enemies, and this is evident from history. Therefore, the monasteries were built reliably, the walls were built so that they could withstand the onslaught of the enemy army. In this regard, the walls and towers of the New Town were built even more firmly from a defensive point of view. It was in the walls and buildings of the New City that there were a large number of loopholes, and in the towers monks could hide and hold a siege.
