Russia, Vologda region, Kirillov district, Kirillov city, Kirillo-Belozersky monastery
Description:
The Moscow or Ferapontov Tower of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery was built in the XVII century, in 1660. It belongs to the New Town, the latest building in the monastery. The Ferapontov Tower is the tallest building in the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, the tower has 16 faces.
The walls of the new city had four towers. All these towers, including the Moscow tower, were built with one feature - inside the tower there was a hollow pole, which was an observation post. Such points were called watchers. It was convenient for the safety of the monastery. Since the tower was high enough, the “watcher” could see strangers approaching from afar. The gardens were built, and some of them have survived.
