The Corner Tower of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery

Russia, Vologda region, Kirillov district, Kirillov city, Kirillo-Belozersky monastery.

Description:

The corner tower of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery has been known since the XVII century. Around this time, it is believed that it was built. It belongs to the Great Assumption Monastery. The tower performed a purely economic function. It was also called a fishing tent. Researchers suggest that it was here that the fish caught on the lake were processed.

As you know, the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery in the first centuries of its activity was one of the first suppliers of salt and fish in the country. Lake Siverskoe, especially rich in fish in those days, fed fish not only to the monks of the monastery, but also gave them the opportunity to earn fishing. Therefore, a separate room was built for the needs of this activity.

The tower has survived to our time, but needs restoration.
