Prechistenskaya promenade

Vologda, Prechistenskaya embankment

Description:

Prechistenskaya embankment is one of the central city embankments, the architectural ensemble of which is of unconditional interest to tourists.

The embankment runs along the Vologda River, from the mouth of Zolotukha to the bridge, named in honor of the 800th anniversary of the city. The embankment often changed its name: it was Prechistenskaya, Forest, Sports, and Cedar. Today the embankment bears its “native” name, which it received in honor of the Church of the Virgin – the most pure.

The construction of the embankment is both stone and wooden. Here you can see such sights as the houses of the governor and governor-general of past centuries, the chambers of the Salt Yard, which belonged to the Spaso-Prilutsky monastery, the Red Bridge, historically pedestrian, the church of Solovetsky Zosima and Savvaty in the baroque style of the 18th century, the former real Alexander School, etc.

It should be noted that only 9 houses built before the revolution have survived to this day, and earlier there were more than 30 of them.
