Peace Avenue

ooh Mira, Vologda, Vologda region, Russia

Description:

During its existence, the Prospect of Peace has changed several names. At first, this street was called Zolotushnaya, a little later - Gostinodvorskaya Square, since from the sixteenth century the Gostiny Dvor was located here. Then, after the construction of the Vologda Kremlin, when everything around was dug up, and a lot of clay was accumulating on the street, the current Prospekt of the World began to be called Glinkivskaya embankment. With the coming to power of the Bolsheviks, this embankment received a classic workers' and peasants' name - Street of Peace.

There are a variety of architectural monuments, including ensembles of shopping rows and many memorial buildings, the Stone Bridge and the famous Fair House. In addition, Prospekt Mira plays the role of a transport artery of the central part of Vologda and is the main shopping street of the city.
