Soviet prospectus
Description:
Soviet Prospect - Avenue in Vologda. This is one of the central and oldest streets of the city, the former Moscow highway. It merged the former streets of Roshchinskaya, Novinkovskaya and Moskovskaya.
Earlier, in the old days, on the site of modern Soviet Avenue there was a part of Nizhny Posad between Pushkin Street and the river station, which was called Roshchenye, and further - from the pier to Levichevsky Street - the Novinka district.
New items began to build up in the second half of the XVI century. The changes began after Tsar Ivan the Terrible in 1565 began the construction of the Kremlin in the city and ordered the demolition of almost all the old buildings. Many buildings were moved, and the part formed in the settlement received the name “Novelty”.
Roshchenskaya and Novinkovskaya streets were later merged into one - Moskovskaya, the roadway of which had a stone pavement, and in 1918 the street was renamed Soviet Avenue.
