Description:

One of the oldest and largest monasteries in the North of Russia, founded by St. Dmitry Prutsky, whose relics rest in the monastery.

The monastery was founded at the end of the XIV century by a student of Sergius of Radonezh Dmitry Prilutsky, who built a wooden church and around it cells for monks. Over time, the monastery became an important strategic and trading point on the way from Vologda to other cities, so many donated money, land and church items to the monastery. Because of this, the temple was subjected to numerous thefts. The temple consists of the Savior Cathedral and the Assumption Church.

In Soviet times, the monastery was a transit prison, and only in 1992 it was returned to the churches.

The temple contains the relics and staff of Dmitry Prilutsky, a list from the miraculous icon of Dmitry Prilutsky, the relics of the Uglichsky princes, a well, particles of the relics of the holy Apostles Mark and Barnabas, St. Basil the Great, St. John Chrysostom and other saints, as well as the icon of the Mother of God “Quickheartedness”.
