Holy Assumption Cathedral of the Mountain Monastery
Vologda, Burmaginov Street, 19 And
Description:
The Holy Assumption Cathedral of the Mountain Monastery appeared before the monastery was formed on this place. The first temple was built in 1303.
The first temple was wooden, Bishop Theoctistus consecrated it in honor of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God. According to the chronicles, this temple was destroyed in a fire in 1499.
The stone cathedral was built only in 1692-1699, together with the winter church and bell tower. Funds for the construction were received from kings John and Peter Alekseevich. The domes of the temple were decorated with gilded crosses, after which the cathedral was nicknamed “Golden Crosses”. When a fire broke out in the monastery again in 1761, it damaged the domes and vaults of the temple.
The temple facades are decorated modestly. Above the entrance to the temple is the monastery bell tower, which was rebuilt in 1880. The bell tower has ten bells.
In 1924, the temple passed to the communications company of the Ennes division - in the temple began to show movies.
At present, the cathedral is fully restored, and services are held there.
