Batyushkov Manor

Description:

In the Vologda region, 15 km south of Ustyuzhny, there is a village of Danilovskoye. There you can visit the Branch of the Ustyuzhensky Museum of Local History - the literary house-museum of Konstantin Nikolaevich Batyushkov and Alexander Ivanovich Kuprin. The family estate of the Batyushkov family, built at the end of the XVII century by the grandfather of the poet Konstantin Nikolaevich Batyushkov, has been preserved. A wooden house with a mezzanine in the style of classicism is surrounded by a century-old park and a pine alley. The estate spent the childhood years of the famous Russian poet Konstantin Nikolaevich Batyushkov (1757-1855). The last owner of the estate was the great-nephew of the poet, philologist, privat-docent of St. Petersburg University Fyodor Dmitrievich Batyushkov (1857-1920), who was often visited by the writer Alexander Ivanovich Kuprin (1870-1938). Here Kuprin rested and worked fruitfully. Until 1998, the village was transported from the village of Novinki wooden tent church of the early XVIII century, now lost.
