Mozhaisky Manor

Description:

Not far from Vologda, on the 12th kilometer of the Poshekhon highway, a monument of architecture of the XIX century has been preserved. Scientists call this house the "Cradle of Russian Aviation".

In 1860, A.F. Mozhaisky was temporarily seconded from the fleet and appointed as a candidate of the world mediator of the Gryazovetsky district of the Vologda province. There was an important event in the officer’s life. At one of the balls in the Noble Assembly, his acquaintance with the future bride and wife Lyubov Dmitrievna Kuzmina took place. After the wedding in the church of St. Catherine in Vologda, the young settled in the village of Kotelnikov (now Mozhaiskoe) in the house received in a dowry by the wife of A.F. Mozhaisky.

The scientist himself later called the years spent in Kotelnikov, near Vologda, "... years of fruitful work on aeronautics."
