Sunday Cathedral

Russia, Vologda, Kremlin Square, 1

Description:

The Sunday Cathedral in the city of Vologda is located near the modern entrance to the territory of the Vologda Kremlin. Now it is the Regional Museum of Local History. Originally a warm stone temple, which was intended for winter worship, on the territory of the Vologda Kremlin was built between 1757 and 1770 and consecrated in the name of the Meeting of the Lord. However, numerous defects in the construction of the temple were found, indicating its fragility. Therefore, in 1771, the cathedral was completely dismantled and rebuilt, already called Voskresensky.

The new Resurrection Cathedral was built on the site of the dismantled southeastern tower of the Vologda Kremlin, and the construction was a stone from the ruins of its fortress walls and towers. The Council was dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ as one of the main events in the history of the Gospel.
