About the company:
The exhibition complex "Vologda at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries" is located in a merchant manor, consisting of three buildings: a shop, a merchant mansion, an apartment house. All buildings in the early twentieth century belonged to the merchant of the second guild, jeweler and watchmaker master Alexander Pavlovich Samarin (1862-1934), so the branch of the museum "Vologda at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries" is sometimes called simply the house of the merchant Samarin. The architecture of the buildings is typical for the wooden Vologda housebuilding of that time: elements of provincial modernity and classical style were used in the construction.
The expositions of the museum demonstrate the lifestyle of Vologda merchants and burghers at the turn of the XIX and XX centuries. With the history of the house and its owners, visitors are introduced to the exhibits of a small exhibition “Relics of the House of Samarin”.
In the apartment building there is a memorial apartment, where in 1912-1914 M.M. Ulyanov and his mother lived in exile. Since the 1990s, such exhibitions as “Vologda at the turn of the century”, “A lesson in the old school”, “In the house of the merchant Samarin”, “Traditions of the Russian feast” have been working here.
