Vologda

City of Totma (Totem district)

Description:

Totma is one of the most unusual merchant cities of the Vologda region! Firstly, only here in the temple architecture art historians singled out a special style - "Totem Baroque". The original cartouches or stamps on the walls of buildings (which are no longer found in any city of Vologda region) allowed us to make this conclusion . Secondly, in terms of the number of museums per capita, Totma is also in the leaders within our region. Thirdly, it is a city of Russian seafarers, not bordering on any sea! Fourth, the founder of Fort Ross in California is a native of Totma! Fifthly, the extraction of salt by industrial means, concentrated in the hands of the richest people and monasteries of Russia, was also conducted on these lands. You can go on and on, but it is better to look at everything firsthand and draw your own conclusions.
