Volsk Museum of Local History

The Volsk Local History Museum was founded in 1920. It has departments: historical, nature, art gallery. The fund consists of collections on geology and paleontology, botany and zoology, archaeology and numismatics, collections of painting and sculpture, rare books and household items, memorial collections of noble countrymen, etc. The exposition of the History Department acquaints visitors with the history of Volsk and Volsky district in various epochs from ancient times to the present day. The exposition of the nature department gives a complete picture of the physical and geographical conditions of the Volsky district: relief, climate, soils, water system. Colorful dioramas show changes in nature at times of year. The exhibition of the art gallery presents works of Western European, Russian, Soviet masters of painting of the XVII - XX centuries, sculpture, products of applied art (furniture, ceramics, glass). The decoration of the gallery is the canvases of masters of the Russian avant-garde, as well as artists of the Saratov school.
