Voronezh

Orlyonok Park – New in the Old

Description:

Orlyonok Park is a park of culture and recreation in the city. Voronezh is located at the intersection of the current streets Feoktistov, Friedrich Engels, Student and Tchaikovsky, has five entrances decorated in the style of classicism. “Eagle” is divided into two parts: a classic park with a wide alley and a fountain is combined with a landscaped, depleted network of winding paths under the crowns of trees. Both parts of the park are conditionally connected by a grandiose design - the so-called bridge, under which the food zone is equipped. The history of the park begins in 1845, it was then that the cadet corps for the children of nobles appeared here. Before the revolution, the parade ground of the Mikhailovsky Cadet Corps was located here. In 1918, the authorities named this place the Square of the Third International, and it became the main one in the city. A year later, mass graves appeared here, which marked the beginning of the military necropolis.

Our cognitive walk will begin with the main entrance, with the sculpture “Boy-eagle on horseback and with a mountain” – with its appearance, the mention of the International has gone into the past, and the place was given to children and received a new name. It happened in 1980.

Next, a fountain in the classical style meets us, going from it to the right we will find ourselves at the monument to the writer Gavriil Nikolaevich Troepolsky, who was born in our region and died in Voronezh. The sculptural composition did not bypass one of the iconic and famous works of the writer - the story "White Bim Black Ear".

We will visit a small paved area with a monument to the poet Osip Mandelstam, which was erected in 2008 and is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the death of this outstanding person.
