Monument to A.V. Koltsov
Description:
The monument to A.V. Koltsov in the park of the same name is one of the oldest in Voronezh. The initiator of the monument was the sister of the poet. She was the organizer of the collection of donations.
The author of the monument was a sculptor from St. Petersburg of Italian origin Augustino Triskorni on the sketch of the Voronezh artist A. A. Cui. The monument was made of very valuable white Carrara marble and made in the form of an elegant bust on a high pedestal in the best traditions of classicism. Strict, made in the ancient manner - this monument attracts the attention of almost all walkers in the park. The pedestal for the monument is also a real work of art - it is decorated with protrusions, wreaths, garlands and sockets. The pedestal itself is made in the form of a slightly tapering prism with a curly top.
The grand opening of the monument took place on October 27, 1868. During the ceremony was attended by the U.S. diplomatic representative to the Russian Empire E. Skyler, who was a fan of the poet’s talent.
Soon around the monument was broken Koltsovsky square. After the installation of the monument, there was also a wonderful tradition of planting palm trees around it in tubs. And in early June 1876, a fountain near the monument worked, which was later replaced by a color-musical one. By the 200th anniversary of the poet’s birth (2009 was declared the year of A.V. Koltsov in the Voronezh region), the square was updated, the area around it was ennobled. At the monument itself, facing marble slabs were replaced with more durable granite ones.
