DNA monument

Crossroads of Mir, Feoktistov and Engels streets, Voronezh

Description:

Monument of DNA (or deoxyribonucleic acid), one of the most unusual monuments in the world and perhaps the only monument in the world dedicated to this molecule. It is popularly known as the DNA Molecule, but is actually a monument to science. The history of the monument began more than forty years ago, when this aluminum building appeared on the street in the city of Zelenograd, as a symbol of the Institute of Radio Electronics. However, this design did not please either the residents of the city or the administration, and it was safely exchanged for a few tones of metal from Voronezh.

Now rejected by Zelenograd metal monumental construction installed on the road interchange street Friedrich Engels. In 2010, the dilapidated monument, the city administration wanted to remove and put into meltdown, but the public, the press and residents of the city defended it. The modernity, unusualness and originality of the DNA molecule pleased everyone. And officials agreed to preserve the unusual decorative element in the Central District and restore it.

The monument is installed next to the Cathedral of Voronezh. Against the background of the cathedral, the monument looks especially unusual. The futuristic DNA molecule and the snow-white cathedral create an amazing but harmonious combination of the old, patriarchal and new, modern.

By the way, deoxyribonucleic acid provides storage, transmission from generation to generation and implementation of the genetic program of almost all living organisms on the planet. Agree, this is a very important monument!
