Historical and Ethnographic Museum-Reserve "Yalkal"
Vyborg district, Ilyichev, Leningrad region, Russia
Description:
Museum "Yalkal" is located in a beautiful picturesque place between the lakes Big Simaginskoye (Beauty) and Long. In August 1917, V. I. Lenin was hiding from the police in these places for some time, and in 1940 a memorial museum was created here in his honor. Scientists suggest that this is why Yalkala has survived to our time in almost perfect condition. For this purpose, a special protective canopy was installed over it.
Now the exposition of the museum is completely devoted to the history of the various indigenous peoples who inhabited the Karelian Isthmus, from ancient times to 1944. About the life of the Finns of the first half of the twentieth century, we can learn from the models of the Finnish village of Yalkala and the Finnish farm Parviainen, which are presented in the left part of the museum. Also in the exposition of the institution reflected two Soviet-Finnish wars that took place in the middle of the twentieth century.
Separate stands of Yalkal are dedicated to the death and last months of life of G. V. Plekhanov, who was treated in a tuberculosis sanatorium, which is located nearby. Also in the historical and ethnographic museum-reserve lived A. A. Benois (Konsky) - painter-watercolorist and Sulho Ranta - the famous Finnish composer.
