Republic of Sakha, Yakutia, Russia
Description:
On the Vilyui River, a tributary of the Lena River, the Vilyui Reservoir is located. It was formed in 1965-1967 with the help of the dam of the Vilyui hydroelectric power station. When it was created, about two thousand hectares of agricultural land were flooded and 50 buildings were demolished.
The area of the Vilyui reservoir, at an altitude of 246 meters above sea level, is 2360 square kilometers. The average annual inflow of water is 20 cubic kilometers, and the total volume of the reservoir is 40.4 cubic kilometers. This reservoir serves for seasonal and long-term management of the runoff of the Vilyui River, as well as for the supply of water to nearby villages, fishing and navigation. There are many different types of fish: nelma, chir, eel, pike, carp. In the lower part of the current of the Vilyui River, passes from the reservoir through the discharge of a hydroelectric power station are used to ensure navigation conditions.
