Balagan volcano

Momi district, Yakutia

Description:

The Balagan-Tas volcano is over 400 years old. It is a huge cone-shaped mound consisting of various rocks. Its height does not reach 1000 meters. At the top of the volcano is a crater with a diameter of about 120 meters at a depth of about 10 meters. Inside the recess for many centuries formed a kind of soil cover with a depth of no more than a meter. Some plants grow there. There are alder stlanik and stone birch.

The slopes of Balagan-Tas are perfectly smooth. This suggests that it has not erupted in a long time.

The name of the volcano was given by local residents. From afar, the hill looks great like a Yakut yurt. The name itself is in principle translated from Yakut.
