Yaroslavl

An ancient city looking to the future

Description:

The first mention of Yaroslavl is found in the “Tale of Bygone Years” for 1071. However, the official date of formation of the city is considered to be 1010. According to legend, it was then that Prince Yaroslav the Wise arrived at the confluence of the Volga and Kotorosli with priests to baptize the local population. However, the pagans did not want to obey the will of the prince, and set a bear on uninvited guests. Yaroslav the Wise fought with the beast and won, according to legend, killing it with a sequira. Only then the locals obeyed the prince, and he laid a wooden fortress at the confluence of two rivers, with which the city began.
