Yaroslavl

Beauty and history of the Upper Volga: Tutaev + Rybinsk

Description:

This trip to the Yaroslavl region gives us the opportunity to get acquainted with 2 Upper Volga cities of the northern part of the Golden Ring: Tutaev and Rybinsk 50 km from each other, and 30 km from Yaroslavl. In it you can learn more about the ancient roots of the Yaroslavl region and get acquainted with the “physiognomy” of these landscape settlements. Tutaev as “Yaroslavl Plyos”, standing on 7 hills and two banks with a scattering of medieval temples of the 17th century, stretching on both sides of the main street of the city – the Volga. And the Burlatsk capital of the upper Volga – Rybinsk, with a merchant center of the 19th century and amazing achievements of the Soviet era.

Included are tour guide services at places of visit and movement between cities.

You'll see:

Kustodiev province on the banks of the Volga - Tutaev (historic Romanov-Borisoglebsk).

For 800 years, the historical settlement of Romanov-Borisoglebsk (now Tutaev) stands on the banks of the main Russian river. It is divided into 2 parts, so we will divide his study in two with the ferry. I can compare it to Yaroslavl Plyos. From the earthen ramparts of the “Romanov Kremlin” on the left bank and the hero-cathedral of the Krestovozvizhensky with frescoes of the genius of Russian wall painting Guri Nikitin, to the beautiful Resurrection Cathedral with its ancient shrines on the right bank. Here I will show you the largest icon in Russia – the image of the “Savior of the All-Merciful.” We will make a promenade along Kustodievsky Boulevard and compare the paintings of the 19th century with walking ladies and frantic men at the Romanov Fair. Let us devote a separate line to the story of cinematography, which captured the images of the city in the shooting. We will make amazing photos of temple pearls scattered with a necklace of temples from both banks. And even more you can learn about those people who were born on this land and are now known to the whole world: F.F. Ushakov, F.I. Tolbukhin and, of course, my most famous countrywoman Vala Tereshkova.

Fishermen on the shores of their sea

Rybinsk mosaic consists of parts of the history of our country. During the tour, we will explore the millennial path from the settlement of Ust-Sheksna, where the ancestors of the Rybinsk people lived and come to the 21st century, where modern descendants live on the river and the banks of their artificial “Rybinsk Sea”. Dams and locks, dams and hydroelectric power stations, and of course, the statue of Mother Volga - all this we will see during the detour of the surroundings of Rybinsk. You will learn about the hard fate of the burlaks on the Volga and walk with me to the old merchant quarters, similar to St. Petersburg places. We look at Rybinsky Nevsky Prospect and draw historical parallels with the former northern capital. We will find the only monument to the burlak in the world and go to the Bread Exchange, where Rybinsk merchants turned their multimillion dollar tea a hundred years ago. And Rybinsk will be able to reveal its stories: from the literature of Oshanin and the Nobel trade to the cinema of the Schenker brothers and the achievements of science of modern Rybinsk people.
