Yaroslavl and Kostroma in 1 day
Description:
My author’s tour of the two Volga cities of the Golden Ring will allow you to feel the expanses and landscapes of the upper Volga region and learn the history of outpost cities. The brainchild of Yaroslav the Wise and Yuri Dolgoruky. I can compare them as brothers and sisters 150 years apart.
Yaroslavl as the first Christian Russian city on the Volga.
The brainchild of the Rostov prince Yaroslav the Wise and after a whole millennium still stands at the confluence of two rivers: the Volga and Kotorosli. We will trace its history from the 11th century from the most beautiful place in the city - Yaroslavl Arrow to the present time. I will show you the main business cards of the city or even symbols of the whole of Russia: Strelka, the Volga embankment, the Yaroslavl Kremlin, the Volkovo Theater, the temple of Ilya the Prophet. We will study visually in the historical center all the objects of the UNESCO heritage zone. The highlight of this trip for children and adults will be the study of the entire thousand-ruble Yaroslavl bill (from the front to the reverse side): from the monument to Yaroslav the Wise to the masterpiece of world architecture - the temple of John the Baptist in Tolchkovo Sloboda, which is a unique example of medieval architecture of Russia to this day.
Kostroma is a historical city, stretched on the banks of the Volga. She is a sister of Moscow, although she is only five years younger. The brainchild of Yuri Dolgoruky on the Rostov-Suzdal land.
Pre-revolutionary provincial buildings, the largest shopping arcades in provincial Russia, cozy cafes, monuments of Susanin, Ostrovsky and Snegurochka, create the atmosphere of an ancient, noble, merchant city of the late 19th century.
Here you can recall the film “Cruel Romance”, take a picture in Ostrovsky’s gazebo and debarcader, to which, according to the film, the steamer “Swallow” moored.
Getting acquainted with Kostroma I suggest to start with a walk through the ancient center of our city.
We will visit the main Susaninskaya Square, where you will see the beautiful Fire Hall, perhaps the most beautiful in Russia, a chic guardhouse, the courthouse - the prototype of the Governor's House in Nekrasov's poem "Who in Russia lives well!".
Walk through the largest shopping rows in the country, where you can look at the Cheese Exchange and buy real Kostroma cheese! Take a walk through the territory of the Kostroma Kremlin, see the ancient ramparts and the restored Cathedral Ensemble of the Kostroma Kremlin.
And that’s not all we’ll see when we walk around town! Be sure to approach the monument to I. Susanin, Yu. Dolgoruky, we will visit the functioning Epiphany-Anastasin monastery, where the main shrine of the city is kept - the miraculous icon of the Theotokos.
In addition, you can include in the tour and visit the famous Ipatiev Monastery, which went down in history as the Cradle of the House of Romanov.
