Adrianov Assumption Monastery

Address: 152850, Yaroslavl region, Poshekhonsky m/o, Adrianova Sloboda village

Description:

Adrianov Uspensky Monastery is a men's monastery, which is located in the village of Andrianov Sloboda of Poshekhon district of the Yaroslavl region.

It was founded by Hierodeacon Adrian of Poshekhon and the elderly monk Leonid in 1543 at the very place where the icon of the Assumption of the Mother of God appeared miraculously on one of the trees. The miracles didn't end there. The water from the well, dug out with his own hands behind the fence of the monastery by hegumen Hadrian, brought people healing from various diseases. Unfortunately, in 1550, Adrian was brutally killed in a robbery attack on the monastery.

After this event, the monastery underwent many architectural changes until it burned down in 1699. Only in 1718 on this place was consecrated the Assumption Cathedral, built of white stone. The most revered shrine of the monastery was the miraculous icon of the Assumption of the Most Holy Mother of God.

In Soviet times, the monastery was closed, all the brethren were repressed, and all the premises of the monastery were occupied by the state farm. The remains of the monastery were returned to the Church only in the 1990s. It was completely restored in 2007, after plastering the entire bell complex and construction work was carried out inside the north wing.
