The Church of Epiphany (Yaroslavl)

Moscow Prosp., 12, Yaroslavl, Yaroslavl region, Russian Federation 17 m

Description:

The Church of the Epiphany, according to art historians, completed in Yaroslavl the golden age of the construction of Christian buildings, which today are revered as historical monuments. Nowadays, it hosts not only divine services, but also excursions, the building is also considered a branch of the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve.

Initially, the courtyards of Yaroslavl Posad were located on this place, then a small wooden Epiphany Church was built here. The local land passed to the Transfiguration Monastery, where a monastery settlement was organized for the staff serving the monastery.

At the end of the XVII century, a decision was made to build a stone temple. The construction lasted seven years, and all these years it was financed by the merchant of the first guild Zubchaninov. He was known for selling quality leather and was considered a successful and devout man. For his merits he was buried on the monastery necropolis.

At the end of the XIX century, another local merchant Kuznetsov allocated funds for the reconstruction of the building. During the revolution, the temple was badly damaged by shelling, but in the 30s it was unexpectedly recognized as a protected monument. True, even then the Bolsheviks remained true to themselves: they placed a garage and auto repair shops on the back of the porch. Restoration work in the church was carried out only in the XXI century.

The temple is located in Yaroslavl on Epiphany Square and is open to visitors from 9 am to 14.00.
