The Church of the Transfiguration in the City

Yaroslavl

Description:

The Church of the Transfiguration on the City is the central sacred object in the Yaroslavl region, located on the banks of the Kotorosl River. The church settled in the central part of the city of Yaroslavl and has certain borders with the Yaroslavl Kremlin. It got its name due to its location at the “city auction”.

In 1658, she survived the Great Fire. Here summed up the construction of the building, which was completely wooden. And in 1672, the previous architect’s mistake was corrected, and a stone temple was built instead of the former wooden church. The basis was taken by the church of John Chrysostom in Cowboys.

The temple was badly damaged for the second time during the anti-Bolshevik movement in 1918 and was renovated with voluntary donations from believers. In 1926, it closed and was first transferred to the local history museum, then used as a warehouse. And only in July 2003 the object was transferred to the Yaroslavl diocese and again began to function as a church.

It is not difficult to get to the church, since it is located near the Komsomolskaya stop in the city of Yaroslavl. This is the central part of the city, almost all buses, trolley buses and, of course, suburban taxis go there.
