Alexander Nevsky Chapel

Yaroslavl region, Yaroslavl district, Yaroslavl, Andropov street, 8

Description:

One of the attractions of the Golden Ring is the Chapel of Alexander Nevsky in Yaroslavl. It was built at the end of the XIX century in memory of the miraculous rescue of the royal family in a train crash.

In memory of the salvation of the imperial family of Alexander III, Yaroslavl merchants decided to raise money for the holy icon. But the capital raised was also enough to build a small chapel.

The chapel is built in the style of Russian architecture of the XVII century. Artfully decorated with brick decor. The building resembles a small bell tower with a tent and porch on barrel-shaped pillars. It has one apse. The oak carved iconostasis is made according to the sketches of the architect Pozdnev.

From 1918 to the end of the 80s, the building was used for other purposes. In the early 90s, the building was transferred to the Tolga Monastery. In 2002, the chapel updated the interior, decorating it with paintings by the masters of the Yaroslavl Icon school, and was consecrated by Vladyka Kirill.

Every year on the day of the miracle, October 17, a procession is sent to the chapel from the Assumption Cathedral with the image of Nicholas the Wonderworker, who is borrowed from the Nikolo-Babaevsky monastery.

The chapel is located in the center of Yaroslavl, near the city hall. If you go by public transport, then you need to get off at the stop "Pervomayskaya Street", and then walk along Deputy Street for three minutes.
