The bell tower of the Transfiguration Cathedral
Russia, Yaroslavl, Epiphany Square, 25
Description:
Like any city, Yaroslavl has a number of attractions by which you can guess Yaroslavl himself. One of them is the Caller of the Transfiguration Monastery.
The belfry itself is a fairly massive architectural structure with a height of 32 meters. This building is not only a landmark of Yaroslavl, but also, we can say, a visiting card of the city. Approaching closer to the monastery, it is the belfry that greets us affably faster than the other elements of the monastery.
The bell tower itself, built in the 16th century, consisted of a base created from a massive wall, in turn, the tops consisted of two arches of ringing. The building was crowned with two stone tents, complementing the arches of ringing.
Then in the early 19th century, the provincial architect Pankov P. rebuilt the top of the tower. Namely, they dismantled the tents and erected a gazebo under a round dome. The gazebo is not only part of the decor, but also there is a room for the clock mechanism of the old Galovey H. clock, which previously decorated the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin.
Also on the territory of the monastery there is a church of Our Lady of the Caves, located at the base of the Bell Tower.
Many tourists come to the monastery to hear the magnificent fine music performed with 18 bells.
At the top of the belfry itself there is an observation deck where you can go up and see the entire panorama of the city.
The monastery works every day, come and enjoy the architecture, the sounds of bells and the views.
You can get to the monastery by such buses as 2, 4, 6, 8, 13, trolleybuses 5, 9.
