Nikitsk Church in Elizarovo

Yaroslavl region, Pereslavl district, on the side of the highway Pereslavl-Zalessky - Yuriev-Polish, about 1 km after the railway move to Ryazantsevo

Description:

The Nikitskaya Church (or the Church of the Martyr Nikita of Gotha) is located in the Shahi River in the village of Elizarovo, Yaroslavl region. Its architectural distinctive feature is the tent top of the building, when most church objects end with a dome.

The church is a monument to the soldiers who died during the siege of the Kazan Khanate. It got its name due to the fact that its main throne was consecrated in honor of the holy martyr Nikita, whose memory is revered on September 28 or September 15 according to the old style. It was on this day that the decisive battle took place during the capture of Kazan by the detachment of A. Basmanov. The Arskaya Tower was taken, and the church became the property of a well-known oprichnik. Further, it was inherited within the Basmanov family and in 1643 passed into the possession of the Trinity-Sergius monastery.

In 1822, two chapels were added to the church building - S. Radonezhsky and N. Wonderworker. In 1930 the church was closed and then used as a garage. In 1975, the building of the facility was recognized as an emergency and reconstruction work continues to this day.
