Description:

The Kotorosl River flows throughout the Yaroslavl district, as well as through the Gavrilov-Yamsky and Rostov districts. The length of the river reaches 130 km, and the catchment area is 6370 square km. The Kotorosl River is the largest tributary of the Volga River in the Yaroslavl region. Nowadays, the Kotorosl River is navigable only along the lower 11 km of its current. It is also popular among people who are engaged in water tourism. Near it there are many houses for recreation and sanatoriums.

2 bridges pass through the Kotorosl River in Yaroslavl. One of them is Tolbukhinsky Bridge, and the other is a bridge to Domansky Island. They are suitable for both cars and pedestrians.

There is still debate about the name of the river. Previously it was referred to as Korostl, which and so on. The interpretation of this name is also unknown. Some refer to folk etymology, that is, they assume meanings by similarity with another word. Others believe that the name Kotorosl comes from the verb “to argue” and so on.
