Trinity sculpture
Trinity, Yaroslavl, Yaroslavl region.
Description:
Yaroslavl, as one of the oldest Russian cities, is known for its amazing sights.
In the historical center of the city, opposite the Assumption Cathedral is the only monument to the Holy Trinity in Russia. The author of this work, sculptor N.A. Mukhin was inspired by the eponymous plot of the famous icon Andrei Rublev, which became a canonical image of the Trinity in the Orthodox world.
In an attempt to draw an analogy with the icon, the sculptor gave the figures a simplified form in order to make them look like ancient frescoes. The monument was erected in 1995, in honor of the 1000th anniversary of the baptism of Russia.
Initially, the sculpture caused negative impressions among some residents of Yaroslavl, but over time, the monument became popular among tourists and the local public.
The initial rejection of the new sculpture was associated with a non-standard style of depiction of the Holy Trinity, which seems to some people caricature.
It is worth mentioning the local legend that left in the bowl at the feet of the saints coin will give you luck in all endeavors.
You can get to the monument by bus (routes 4, 4A, 13, 16, 41) or trolleybus 72. It will be necessary to get off at the stop "The Epiphany Square". Then walk along the walls of the monastery, and behind the church of Archangel Michael turn left, and along the street Kotoroslaya walk to the Volga embankment.
