The Transfiguration Monastery
Kotoslna embankment, 25, Yaroslavl, Yaroslavl region, Russia
Description:
One of the most famous tourist places in Yaroslavl is the Transfiguration Monastery.
The Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord was created in the thirteenth century and appointed the main abode temple. But in the sixteenth century on the territory of the monastery there was a fire that destroyed the building.
After some time, by order of the Moscow Prince Vasily III, a new temple was built on the same site, which people admire in our time. The design of the Transfiguration Cathedral is made in the form of a four-pillar cross-domed three-domed structure standing on a high subcell.
Open bunk galleries surround the building on both sides, and on one side is a closed gallery. The monastery for all the time of its existence was constantly subjected to restructuring, so it changed from its original appearance.
Inside, the temple is painted with interesting and rather unique compositions, such as the Savaoth in the Conche of the Deacon, the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste, the Transfiguration, the Cover of the Virgin, etc.
This attraction is located in the city of Yaroslavl on Epiphany Square 25. From the stop Epiphany Square to the temple is only 260 meters, and from the stop Komsomolskaya Street a little more - 550 meters.
