Yaroslavl

Dormition Cathedral

Volga embankment, 1, Yaroslavl, Yaroslavl region

Description:

The Assumption Cathedral is a real jewel in the architectural necklace of Yaroslavl. It has a rich and complicated history. Built in the 13th century, the cathedral was completely destroyed during the years of Soviet hardship. For more than 70 years there was a city park in its place.

In 2010, the temple was completely restored for the 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl. The golden heads of the domes of the Assumption Cathedral again shone over the city. However, the new appearance of the temple caused a resonance in society. The size of the temple and the non-standard architectural solution for the Upper Volga tradition caused a number of disputes. But despite this, the temple, as before, is loved by parishioners. People come to worship the holy relics of the noble princes of Yaroslavl Basil and Constantine. In the temple there is also such a shrine as the Yaroslavl Icon of the Mother of God.

The cathedral can be reached on foot from the stop "Bogoyavlenskaya Square" (a distance of about a kilometer) or use taxi services.
