Description:
Vasilievsky Monastery is one of the main historical and architectural monuments of Suzdal. The monastery has several main buildings that deserve attention. We are talking about the Vasilievsky Cathedral, built in 1662-1669 by the Sretensky Refectory Church, founded approximately at the end of the XVII century, as well as a small Holy Gate, which was also installed somewhere in the XVII century.
The monastery itself was founded in the XIIIth century, and during its existence acquired a rich, but tragic history. The Soviet government closed the monastery in 1923. After restoration in the 60s of the XX century, it began to function as warehouses. The monastery returned under the patronage of the Russian Orthodox Church only in 1995, and then not completely.
