About the company:
Metropolitan Chambers are one of the oldest and most interesting monuments of civil architecture of Yaroslavl. Metropolitan Chambers were erected at the end of the 17th century on the site of the burnt-out choir in the Rubleny city in the form of the reception residence of Metropolitan Iona Sysoyevich of Rostov and Yaroslavl. Initially, the residence of the metropolitan was a manor with large two-storey chambers, two outbuildings, buildings and a house church surrounded by a stone fence.
The chambers had seines, residential and reception rooms. Seni divided the room into two main parts. Large stone porches led to the residential and reception rooms, which, unfortunately, have not survived to this day. Downstairs, on the ground floor there were maid rooms and office space.
At the end of the 18th century, the Metropolitan Chamber was twice visited by Empress Catherine II.
Later, the building was rebuilt, and the fence, wings and church were disbanded. The third floor was completed.
After the overhaul, which was carried out in 1977, the exposition of the Yaroslavl Art Museum dedicated to icon painting was opened in the Metropolitan Chambers. Today, in the Metropolitan Chambers, the Museum of Old Russian Art holds exhibitions.
