Yaroslavl region, Nekouzsky district, Borok village, 116

About the company:

The Museum of Nature in the village of Borok was established in 1949 on the initiative of Ivan Dmitrievich Papanin. On July 5, 1949, at his invitation to create a collection of local fauna in Borok, a connoisseur of local nature and hunter Vasily Vasilyevich Averkiev, who owns taxidermy techniques, was invited. In 1952, the third floor of the newly built cobblestone building was allocated for the museum.

The exposition area of the museum is 150 square meters, and the entire space is divided into five separate rooms.

Currently, the museum exhibits 287 species of vertebrate animals out of 350 living in the Yaroslavl region. All this wealth is collected around Bork, in an area with a radius of no more than 18 kilometers.

At the beginning of the tour, tourists get into a room with cold-blooded animals, get acquainted with the species composition of local fish, amphibians, reptiles, learn that 42 species of fish live in the waters of the region. There are also exotic specimens: ballfish, bullfish, sea needle, seahorse, fish-stick, dolper, shovel, paddlefish, shell pike, trout, trout, hammerfish with a length of 50 cm. Then there is familiarization with the species composition of amphibians and reptiles. In our area there are only 9 species of amphibians and 5 species of reptiles. Of the exotic exhibits, there is a skin of a 4-meter boa, an armadillo skin, turtle shells and other exhibits donated by scientists who traveled abroad. The exposition is complemented by an interesting collection of applied art from natural materials created by a local craftsman.

Then there are rooms in which warm-blooded animals are represented. Visitors get acquainted with a very large collection of birds, night and day feathered predators. For example, the order of waders is represented by 37 species, and the order of sparrows - 63 species. There are rare relic specimens: white-tailed eagle, swan-clikun, hawk-grouse of the Caucasian population, silver gull, dark albatross, etc. There is a large collection of bird nests and eggs. A review of animals begins with the smallest animal - a baby mouse, no more than five grams of weight. Consistently you can see shrews, mice, rats, moles, hares, then predatory animals: weasel, ermine, ferret, mink, marten, raccoon dog, fox, lynx. The inspection ends with the largest local animals - boar, bear, moose. In the same room there are paleontological and mineralogical departments, represented exclusively by local material.

Next is the phenological room. Since phenology is the science of seasonal changes in wildlife, here the exhibits are located according to the seasons of the year. All exhibits are in glazed windows decorated under seasonal biotopes. In the exposition you can see calendars and tables for 36 years of phenological observations conducted in this area. There are also stands with useful and medicinal plants. In the center of the room in the windows is a collection of local insects.

Thus, the exposition of the museum acquaints visitors with the animals and plants of the surroundings of Bork, the presence of species composition, appearance, features of their life and adaptation to the environment.

The museum has an archive and restoration workshops (taxidermy, woodwork).
