Why should I come to Yaroslavl?
Description:
Good afternoon, my favorite readers!
In this article, I will tell you why you should come to the ancient and beautiful city of Yaroslavl.
1. Yaroslavl is the first Slavic city on the Volga!
It’s no wonder they call him a beautiful man! It was founded in 1010 on the right bank of the great and beautiful river. The name Volga has been known since childhood and is dear to the heart of every Russian person. In ancient times, the Egyptians called it “Ra”, which means “generous river”, and the Turkic tribes Atelius or Itilla – the river of rivers.
Why do we call the Volga River? Perhaps the name comes from the Slavic “free”, its expanses are widely spread, it flows freely and freely among fields and forests. Or the word "Volga" comes from the Finno-Ugric "bright, bright", on clear days it shines and shimmers in the sun. Maybe its name comes from the words "wet, wolg"? In any case, the word feels amazing strength and power.
And how many songs and poems are devoted to her, how many paintings and films are made! Nekrasov calls the Volga his “cradle”, his childhood was spent on the banks of the river, and Ivan Dmitriev dedicated magnificent lines to it:
The end is a safe run!
Get your sails down!
And you who brought to the bank,
O Volga! rivers, lakes of beauty,
Head, queen, honor and glory,
Sorry! But first worthy.
Turn your attention to the lyre
A singer unknown in the world,
But sang by you!
Alexander Dumas gave Volga a compliment: “Queen of Russian rivers”, and it really is. Power and greatness, fabulous beauty of landscapes and rich history glorified the Volga to the whole world. In Yaroslavl, the Volga is magnificent: its width is almost a kilometer, beautifully equipped embankments, both on the right and on the left bank. On the embankment - snow-white gazebos - symbols of love. When lindens bloom in the city, a honey aroma spills in the air.
You should definitely come to Yaroslavl to admire the Volga!
2. Yaroslavl is the birthplace of the First Russian Theatre!
It was in Yaroslavl in 1750 that a miracle happened - the first Russian public theater was opened. This happened thanks to Fedor Grigorievich Volkov, a man of amazing fate.
The theater in Yaroslavl opens as a public: it could be visited by everyone who paid a penny for the best seats, Altyn (3 kopecks) for average and one penny for the last. In 1750, the first play based on Racine's play Esther was staged. This strange act took place in a barn for storing skin. The performances were very fond of Yaroslavl, and the productions became regular. After the fame of the Yaroslavl theater reached the capital, Her Majesty Empress Elizabeth Petrovna invited Fyodor Volkov to St. Petersburg. There Yaroslavl comedians staged several plays of Shakespeare. Soon, in 1756, a decree was issued in St. Petersburg to open a "theater for the presentation of tragedies and comedies", where Fyodor Volkov was officially declared the First Russian actor, and later became the director of this theater. After some time, he staged an amazing masquerade in Moscow, about which all the newspapers of that time wrote.

Filming takes place in the city every year. Here appeared such famous films as “Women”, “Flowers belated”, “Afonya”, “Big change”, “Crew” and modern: “Doctor Zhivago”, “Yesenin”, “Rebellion”, “Rostov”, “More than love” and many others.
Here lives an amazing man Alexander Petrov, an animator artist, winner of the Oscar award. He paints his films on glass with oil paints, using his fingers rather than his brush. Makes a frame, changes the image, then again the frame. So step by step, a bright and full of inspiration film is created. “The Old Man and the Sea”, “Once Again!”, “My Love” are the most famous animations of the artist Alexander Petrov.

4. Yaroslavl is the capital of Shrovetsa.
Our city is the capital of a cheerful and bright holiday - Maslenitsa. Here, an incredible number of pancakes are baked and elegant olive stuffed ones are created. Maslenitsa begins with a masquerade procession, in which guests of the city and Yaroslavl residents themselves take part. On the main square - dancing, competitions, fun, skating rink. The bell rings everywhere. Pink-cheeked babies cut and play. Cafes and restaurants are waiting for guests and generously treat them. There is a fight “Wall on the wall”, goose fights and other entertainment events. The burning of an olive effigy symbolizes goodbye to winter and the meeting of spring, and the pancake symbolizes the sun! People believed that as you meet Maslenitsa, so you will spend a year, and they said about a prosperous life: “Not life, but Maslenitsa!”
Therefore, welcome to Yaroslavl, the city where the main Maslenitsa of the country takes place!

At the expense of well-to-do merchants of the 17th century - Sveteshnikovs, Guriev-Nazarevs, Skripins - the temples of Nikola Nadein, the Nativity of Christ, Ilya the Prophet are being built. Inside the wall, vaults and pillars are covered with fresco paintings of amazing shades: ochre, crimson-pink, emerald-green, azure tones create an atmosphere of joy and admiration. In the church of Elijah the Prophet there are wonderfully preserved frescoes of the famous masters Guri Nikitin and the Force of Savvin.

6. A city where cheerful and friendly people live. "Yaroslavtsy - all handsome, Rus curls a hundred rubles, a violent head of a thousand, and all the good and no price!" - so it is written on the postcard of the Yaroslavl noblewoman Elizabeth Böhm. Residents of the city are smiley and emotional and have long been famous for their quickness, tireless and cheerful character. Yaroslavl people like to work hard and have fun. No wonder in the 19th century in the capitals of the Russian Empire - Moscow and St. Petersburg - peasants-wasteers mastered 150 professions! These were the owners of cafes and restaurants, bookstores, parks, translators, merchants of any level (the Eliseev brothers are also from Yaroslavl!). And no wonder they say that in the veins of Yaroslavl people “does not flow blood, but mercury!”
7. A city that in the 19th century was famous for the production of bells.
Yaroslavl became famous throughout Russia for the production of bells and life-affirming bell ringings. In the 18-19 centuries there lived a dynasty of bell mowers Olovyanishnikov. Their bells sounded everywhere in Russia! The family was the supplier of the Court of His Imperial Majesty. Porfiry Olovyanishnikov wrote an amazing book about casting bells. The tradition is not forgotten: using the book, revealing the ancient secrets of the bell-molling business, Nikolai Shuvalov creates new bells on the Yaroslavl land. The factory for the production of bells is located in the city of Romanov-Borisoglebsk (Tutaev).
