About the company:

The museum was opened in 1992 in the homeland of the classic of Mari literature, writer-playwright Yakov Pavlovich Mayorov (Sketan), on the site of his estate. Despite the fact that the house was rebuilt, the facade was recreated in its former form. The interior was also reconstructed from the memoirs of the writer’s relatives and fellow villagers.

The central place in the house is traditionally occupied by an oven, a dining table with a samovar stands in an honorable place. The writer’s desktop also found its place, as did many books and biographical material on the stands. In the kitchen and in the halls of many household utensils, used in the late XIX - early XX century.

In 2018, the museum updated the exposition, which made it possible not only to talk about the life and work of the writer, but also to conduct museum and educational classes about the traditions, culture and life of the Mari people. New exhibits appeared, and the former ones found new life.
